PennyBurners SnagBidder

SnagBidder

Many of you have followed the story of SnagBidder from the beginning: back in June, PennyBurners discovered that Andy, the owner, was shilling his customers. Andy tried to deny it for a while, but once he was finally confronted with all of the evidence we had gathered, he broke down and admitted his mistake. He expressed genuine remorse for his actions, and promised that he would turn over a new leaf. Publicly, and privately, he expressed an interest in reforming and in eventually becoming a PennyBurners Verified Penny Auction Site.

Andy made contact with the PennyBurners Team, and asked what he needed to do to become truly legitimate. As noted in our last article regarding SnagBidder, the "terms" for reforming were/are pretty cut and dry:

  • Phone/in-person interview with PennyBurners Administrator to explain the desire to do the right thing.
  • Make it right.
    • Return/refund all bids used by the customer(s) to bid against the shill(s)
    • Refund bids of customers who no longer wish to keep their account as a result of the shilling
  • Admit the wrong doing, decide and commit to change & stop.
  • Publicly apologize to everyone.
  • Abide by the PennyBurners Verification Standards during the probationary period.
    • This includes active monitoring & verification that there are no bots or shills
  • Upon completing the probationary period, the scam site will be moved to "Unverified Penny Auction Site" and eligible for PennyBurners Verification at the sole discretion of PennyBurners.

Andy has since completed and passed his probationary periods with flying colors. SnagBidder has received excellent reviews since then. For example, a PennyBurners user (amcoffee) left the following review for SnagBidder a few weeks ago:

"Andy has always provided excellent customer service! I have won before and after all the issues that have been presented in these forums and have NEVER had an issue with his level of service.

I had made a decision to discontinue bidding at SnagBidder after  Andy had cheated on his site (I was one of the people he bid against). Since then, having read his statements I was willing to give him another chance. He has kept his word in his dealings with me since I began bidding again.

While I understand that he is going through an approval process with PB, he has earned a second chance with me (you will need to make up your own minds).

Today he went above and beyond the call of duty as I received my items in about 15 hours from the time I won them.
"

The PennyBurners Team is delighted to hear that Andy has made a true turn-around, and we are very proud of the concentrated effort he has made to provide excellent customer service and an honest site experience.

We can now recommend SnagBidder, without a doubt, to our Community, and we invite you to mosey on over and give your business to a man who has learned the value of honesty - in life and in business.

Congratulations, Andy!

SnagBidder.com was busted here at PennyBurners a while back. Since then, we were a bit surprised to learn that some seasoned bidders from around the penny auction forum world were still bidding on the site.

As it turns out, PAW actually did an interview and blog about SnagBidder just a few weeks after we exposed him, which prompted some people to try him out. After bidding on, winning, and receiving items some of those users emailed PennyBurners to talk about removing Andy from the "Scam Section."

"Remove a proven scam site owner, who also lied, from the scam section?!?"

PennyBurners has, in the past, attempted to help a proven scam site make a turn around. That site has not yet committed to trying again, but when they do, they agreed to have PennyBurners watch & monitor their practice while under-going a "probationary period" before removing them from the "Scam Section."

Call it "reforming" if you want, we just do not want to further punish those who honestly want to turn around and do the right thing. That is not good for the scam site owner, nor the bidders.

So what about SnagBidder, you ask? What about his lying? Folks, PennyBurners is constantly doing its best to find and promote legitimate penny auction sites, so bidders have a place to spend their money with confidence. If Andy has decided to turn around, and is doing what's right, then keeping him listed as a scam may hurt him and his business. Thus removing another site from the pool of legit ones for bidders to bid at. (Strong emphasis on "If")

"Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future.." -from Oscar Wilde. I personally (Nicholas Boccio) believe that everyone who admits, and owns their mistakes should be given another chance.

Here is what is required for Andy, or any other scam site owner, to turn around:

  1. Phone/In person interview with PennyBurners Administrator to explain the desire to do the right thing
  2. Make it right.
    • Return/refund all bids used by the customer(s) to bid against the shill(s)
    • Refund bids of customers who no longer wish to keep their account as a result of the shilling
  3. Admit the wrong doing, decide and commit to change & stop
  4. Publicly apologize to everyone
  5. Abide by the PennyBurners Verification Standards during the probationary period
    • This includes active monitoring & verification that there are no bots or shills
  6. Upon completing the probationary period the scam site will be moved to "Unverified Penny Auction Site" and eligible for PennyBurners Verification at the sole discretion of PennyBurners.

Andy's apology: http://www.pennyburners.com/community/showthread.php?t=690

The original article, posts, and threads regarding the (in Andy's case) shilling will always be public. He now has the duty of creating situations where PennyBurners and other penny auction bloggers/posters talk about his business in a positive light to drowned out his past mistakes with good decisions.

PennyBurners keeps a chronological list of blogs & press releases on each site listed in the Verified/Unverified/Scam sections, and these blogs & press releases will stay with that site regardless of which section they are in.

We do not, will not, and never have believed in censorship. We do not believe in pretending a mistake or problem never happened, or sweeping anything "under the rug."

We cannot escape from our past actions, but those actions do not define us. That is what we believe, and hope others see this and really take advantage of the second chance we offer. So long as a site is operating legitimately, we want the bidders to be aware of them and help them stay in business while bidding.
