Just today, the PennyBurners Team was notified of a new penny auction site, operated out of Arizona, that is slated to launch on October 1, 2011: Woozol.com. As you can see above, their logo bears a striking resemblance to the now-defunct super penny auction, Swoopo.com:

That's where the similarities stop - for now - as their site is still undergoing construction, and the domain currently takes you to a landing page.
In a Press Release, Woozol announced that they have launched a nationwide FaceBook contest to find a "fantastic commercial" that will represent their site. The Press Release states that Woozol is looking for:
"... enthusiastic, creative individuals across the nation to get involved at the ground floor and create compelling, original videos. These videos will receive votes, with the creator of the winning video receiving $1,000 as well as the privilege of seeing his or her work broadcast nationally as a commercial for Woozol... The contest further offers a prize of $500 to the second place video, $250 to the third place video, and finally a regional marketing director position with the company for the top 50 entrants. These regional marketing directors will receive this position in recognition of their engagement with Woozol. Should they choose to accept the position, they will be employed and paid by Woozol to be ambassadors for the company."
Interesting proposition, no? Addressing their initial marketing efforts via FaceBook, they further state in the Press Release that:
"Woozol.com is a penny auction site that is being designed from the ground up for social media integration, and feels that this contest reflects their ardent belief that new communication paradigms created by social media are the best avenue for creating an open and engaging website.
The deadline for the contest is August 29, 2011.
We have emailed the listed owner of Woozol.com for more information and for possible further clarification of these "Regional Marketing Director" positions. These typically aren't positions that someone "wins" or that are given to random "hacks" on the street; rather, they are given to professionals who have proven experience and marketing know-how. If and when we receive a response, we will update this article accordingly.
To discuss this interesting development, please join and post in the PennyBurners Penny Auction Forum. It's free to join and fun to participate!
