PennyBurners Penny Auctions

Earlier this afternoon, Scott Matthews, CEO of popular and well-loved penny auction, RagingBid.com, announced that "Score Marketing and Promotions (SMP), dba RagingBid.com, in partnership with Bid-Bob.com, will be honoring the bid balance of all Bid-Bob customers with a 6-1 ratio."

On Feburary 1st, Bob MacReynolds, CEO of Bid-Bob.com, announced the suspension of operations and that, while all owed wins would be shipped out, they were unable to refund the bid balances of their customers. This caused much hub-bub in the community, both on the PennyBurners Penny Auction Forum and on PennyTalkRadio (find the Podcast here), where Bob requested an opportunity to answer the questions/concerns of his customers. Everyone with bid balances was angry, and rightfully so.

From the RagingBid News Article:

For every 1 Bid in your account at Bid-Bob.com, you will receive 6 Bids at RagingBid.com. Ragingbid.com just celebrated two years of operation and continues to be one of the most exciting and rewarding penny auction sites in the industry.  Our customer focused approach continues to drive our daily operations, and we welcome the customers of Bid-Bob.com.  For those of you with established accounts at RagingBid.com, we will add the bid value to your existing account.
Bid-Bob.com President Bob MacReynolds says “RagingBid.com’s generosity by providing bid transfers for Bid-Bob.com customers proves they care deeply about the loyal customers of the Penny Auction Industry, and I believe they will continue to be upstanding corporate citizens in the future. We thank Scott and his team in advance for their help in this process, and we wish our customers well.”
This is a very unique opportunity for RagingBid.com and Blukos.com our online shopping and entertainment mall. “We are in the process of developing alliances in the penny auction community that should give members the assurances that they can participate in a site without a financial risk” states Scott Matthews President of SMP. “Many sites get into a financial burden due to a lack of traffic to their site or by bidders that can monopolize a site from the onset.” “We don’t feel that is was Bid-Bob.com or the officers of the company caused the problem, we feel that it was some much unforeseen circumstances and events that any site could face”.
The Bid Transfers will occur over the next 2 weeks. Bid-Bob.com is responsible for all previous auction wins at Bid-Bob.com, so please continue to direct any product inquiries to [email protected]  RagingBid.com invites you to preview our dynamic auction environment at RagingBid.com, and all questions and comments should be directed to [email protected]

While the skeptics may have more to grumble about for one reason or another, we applaud penny auction site owners who find a way to work together for the betterment of the industry and community, and we do so here.

We asked Scott Matthews why RagingBid decided on the 6 to 1 bid ratio, he said:

We chose a 6 to 1 ratio because we understand the dynamics of the economy and that each site has a different value in bids. At RagingBid we run many different multipliers on paid bids and free bid promotions that are exciting for all of our regular members. We also understand with all of the promotions and multipliers that this creates inflation in our auctions. Many people feel that it is harder to win at RagingBid; however, members have many more bids to use.The decision on the 6 to 1 ratio was based all of these facts and that we want to give the bidders an equitable and fair value for their bids. We will be honoring all bids. We feel that the members that may have participated in a promotion or received bids for enrollment are entitled to the same value as any other member at Bid-Bob.

RagingBid has been in operation for over 2 years and has received rave reviews on the PennyBurners Penny Auction Forum. They also have an almost cult-like following on the RagingBid Facebook Fan Page, full of dedicated, enthusiastic RagingBid bidders. These bidders love to talk not only about their wins and the auctions, but also about their day-to-day lives, making the RagingBid community a bit like family. There is lots of love for "Big Blue" everywhere he goes, and for good reason :-)

What do you think of this change in scenery?

If you were owed bids from Bid-Bob will you take up on RagingBid's offer?

Penny Auctions - RagingBid

This week marks the two-year anniversary since popular penny auction, SkoreIt.com, opened its doors to consumers and sports/gaming fans world-wide.

Happy birthday, SkoreIt!

Since they opened, SkoreIt! has made their mark on the map of the penny auction industry by operating a truly great site. From the start, they have offered stellar customer service, highly-desirable auction items, quick shipping, and a well-oiled script and site. However, SkoreIt! really hit their stride when they began advertising on ESPN and found a competitive market of sports-crazed fans who are willing to battle day-in and day-out on SkoreIt.com.

Since that time, SkoreIt! has grown exponentially, and so has their fan-base. In fact, SkoreIt! is the most talked-about site on PennyBurners. With a SkoreIt! Forum that has more than 5,000 posts and over 125,000 views, it's clear that their fans are passionate and always willing to discuss auction wins (and losses) and bidding strategies.

We have consistently been impressed with SkoreIt!, and even more so with Joe Crivello, COO, with whom we've maintained a great professional relationship over the years. Joe and his team are always seeking innovative ways to keep things fresh, fun, and lively on SkoreIt!, and overall, their plans have played out well.

SkoreIt! recently announced new product offerings, including a Health & Beauty Section, more electronics than ever, and even an Automotive Section. Not too long ago, they implemented the "Own Today (OT) Feature", where, on certain auctions, the losing bidders have the opportunity to apply the price of the bids they invested in the auction toward the purchase of the item at our listed retail price. This greatly limits financial loss, as most bidders typically only on bid on things they want.

SkoreIt! also listened to their fans when they asked for auctions free of bidding agents, a program provided by the site that bidders set to bid for them if they have to leave their computer. Thus, "All Action Auctions (AAA)" was born! With this feature, the auction is truly live, as bidders are not allowed to "set it and forget it". They must be present and paying attention to get the leg up on this one! This type of auction is my favorite, as it creates excitement and anticipation over who will give up or run out of bids first - and who will win.

There are plenty of great things we could say about SkoreIt!, but don't just take our word for it. There are thousands of reviews for them on the PennyBurners Penny Auction Forum. Feel free to join the community and ask questions, or participate in the lively discussions that happen daily. (It's FREE and EASY to join PennyBurners!)

This will be a one-time interview. Bob states that he and his team haven't been able to get back to every e-mail and phone call over the last 16 days, so you are welcome to send a question through the chat room or call in live tomorrow night. Take a stand against collusion!

Earlier today, well-known bidder, Bid2Dead, posted the following on his Bidder Facebook Wall:

To All FB Bidders Friends,

I am so tired of keep getting messages asking to back off from auction because you or your friend wanted it.

PA suppose to be fun......

Just so you know, I will bid on any auction(s) that I want to bid on. Don't bother sending me any message and said "why are you on this auction or that auction".

On top of it, PLEASE stop messaging me and said "Oh, by the way "Bidder A" is my friend. Please don't bid against "Bidder A" so "Bidder A" can have a chance to win the auction.

I normally tag and defend bidder but since PA industry has change a lot lately due to FB. Way to many bidders contacting one another and make agreement not to bid against one another. I am so sick of it.

I always place early bid to let other bidders know that I am interest in that auction so they can make their own decision/choice of bidding against me or not. It is square and fair playing on PA.

You want the auction then fight for it. I don't care if you want to fight me for the auction that you want.

Many sites against colluding but love to use FB to advertising for their site. Don't they know or realize that they are just opening up the loophole for themselves for bidders to communicate with one another.

Some people might have a question then why I have my FB account. Very simple, I don't mind sharing my experience or help to education other bidders on how to play the game.

I accepted everyone request as friends but once you start to course problem then I start to block you out because it is not worth it for me to get into trouble with any site(s). Some people friend me and trying to be nice with me at first then trying to ask for something then when I refuse..... Start trying to cause trouble...... Don't need the headache or drama.

One of the reason, I stop posting much on forums due to all the drama. Many people like to talk HIGHLY about herself/himself which I think it is useless. Better to have other talk HIGHLY about you from your bidding worth way more.

People will respect you from your bidding style, not because you like to talk HIGHLY about yourselves on forums.

LAST NOTE: Please DO NOT think that being on my FB friend list I will not bid against you.

It was very heartening to see bidders of all statures comment on this post in agreement of the message: Collusion IS a real issue, it DOES happen on Facebook and in unmoderated forums, and site owners and bidders alike MUST take a stand against it.

Obviously, the clock cannot be reversed. Bidders already know that they can communicate privately on Facebook, and penny auction sites moving OFF Facebook probably wouldn't solve much. However, something has to be done about back-door deals and happenings that go on within private messages on Facebook and other unmoderated penny auction forums/sites.

This is precisely why PennyBurners does not allow private messaging and why we do our best to police each forum thread for anything that could even be remotely construed as collusion or bullying.(We do ask that our members help us in this endeavor by reporting posts like this when you see them!)

Penny auctions are a GAME. You should never demand that another bidder respect you, or ask them to do you a favor by not bidding against you. You should study and develop a winning strategy for each auction site you are on, bid where, when, and how much you want, and not limit yourself because others may perceive you as greedy or mean.

You don't, as Brenda Clair of GoBidderGo.com said, "sit across from anyone in any type of game, with or without money involved, and say don't do this or that so I can win - What fun is that? Your there to play and win! Go for it!"

Have YOU ever received threatening messages on Facebook, or received a request that you "respect" someone else or do them a "favor"? If it was in regard to an auction on a specific site, have you reported them to the site owner? What can site owners do to combat collusion?

TAKE A STAND!

Jeremy, owner of BidPigs.com, said it best:

"One thing is certain, if the collusion continues Penny Auction Sites will not survive. At least the honest ones . All these people are doing by cheating is creating a market in which only cheaters will survive. When all the PA sites that are left are shilling and cheating this game won't be much fun for anyone!"

Today is Hump Day (AKA "Wednesday") and a very special day for RagingBid.com and all of their bidders.

Today’s promotion is the start of the invitation process for the Big Blue Birthday Bash.

Yes, that’s right, Big Blue is turning two!

And like a bull in a china shop, this weekend should prove to be a whole lot of fun. So, for today’s promotion and through the weekend, RagingBid is taking off the bid caps so everyone can get those bids they need for the party.

Today, RagingBid wants the herd to write what they “like” about three other bidders that they have gotten to know in the penny auction community (these bidders do not have to be RagingBid members). Please make this post on the RagingBid Facebook Wall. They also want the herd to write a review about RagingBid on the PennyBurners Penny Auction Forum and invite other members from the community to join them for the Big Blue Birthday Bash.

You will be rewarded 100 bids for each special bidder you list, and you will be rewarded 200 bids for posting an honest review in the PennyBurners Penny Auction Forum.

To make it real fun to invite people to the party, RagingBid has added a special promotion code -“BigBlueBash”- for every “New Member” that joins to come to the party. They will award the member that gets the most referrals between today and Sunday with a $100.00 Big Blue Gift card that can be redeemed for over 140 retailers, and an entry into the Summer Vacation of a Lifetime drawling. Make sure you tell your friends to list you as the referral when they sign up!

The promotional bids multiplied based on the size of the bid pack or packs that you purchase during the day.

If you purchase a 50 -75 or 125 bid pack your promotion bids will multiply X2,

If you purchase a 200 or 500 bid pack your promotion bids will multiply X3

Ever wanted to swim with the "big boys"?

Winning a penny auction takes skill and strategy. You need to observe the site and its bidders for a while before deciding to "dive in". What time of day seems to have the least activity? Which items seem to attract the most bidders? How do the timers work? Which bidders will go all the way? What strategies do the most successful bidders employ?

All of these questions need to be answered in order to become a successful penny auction bidder. So, how do you go about answering all of these when you don't even know where to start?

AnniesBid.com, a successful charity-driven penny auction site, has come up with a great Bidding Styles and Strategies Guide that we have been allowed to share with you!

News - Penny Auction News

iBid2Save.com has asked us to announce, on their behalf, an adjustment to their Bid Pack Auction Win Limits.

As of today, Bid Pack Auction Win Limits have been adjusted to 12 auctions per 28 days, and 8 Bid Packs per 28 days. This is in conjunction with winning a maximum of 3 auctions of any type per 24-hour period.

They have also changed their Auction Payment Deadline to 72 hours after the end of the auction?

Why's that, you ask?

iBid2Save is implementing a new feature called the "Second Chance Offer". After 72 hours and 1 second from the end of the auction, if you have not paid, the runner-up has the option to buy the auction item at the ended price.

So, bidders, please remember to pay for your auction wins in a timely manner, otherwise, your competitors will benefit from your loss! Also, for detailed Terms & Conditions, please click here.

Please leave reviews and feedback for iBid2Save in the PennyBurners Penny Auction Forum.

After their earlier offer of free bids to anyone who would bid against a certain Power Bidder, SnipKit issued an "apology" on TheBidLounge:

After judging several comments and lots of personnal messages and more phone calls than we could answer the consnesus is personnal attacks are better left personnal and a public forum is the wrong place for vetting distrust.  The  bidlounge has maintained it will not tolerate PA site bashing and we were wrong to bash individual shoppers when they are not allowed that consolation here. We have reached a resolution with the shopper in qustion and made amends.

Read TheBidLounge "Apology" post (saved for posterity) here

Unfortunately, SnipKit's "apology" comes as "too little, too late" and reeks of something foul. We have been in contact with the Power Bidder who had a bounty placed on her head, and can say on her behalf that no such "resolution" has been reached. After reviewing the email exchange between "Clembowski" and "SnipKit", it appears that their assault on her character has been based less on her previous questioning of their integrity and more because she is not a profitable bidder to them.

Don't believe us? Read SnipKit's words for yourself. The following email was sent after "Clembowski" asked them why they had placed a public bounty on her head, instead of communicating with her in private:

Penny Auctions - SnipKit

Earlier this morning SnipKit posted on TheBidLounge encouraging members to shill-bid against power bidders by returning all bids placed against those power bidders.

"That is 100% bids returned for anyone who bids against clembowski!!! or realclembowski at snipkit!!!"

Read TheBidLounge post (saved for posterity) here

SnipKit has deemed these targeted power bidders as colluders, and seems to think that two wrongs make a right. Unfortunately, SnipKit has made the same mistake as CashArena, in not understanding the definition of "collusion" as it pertains to penny auctions. Also like CashArena, SnipKit is choosing to wrong the bidders they wrongly view as colluders. CashArena chose to withhold auction wins, and SnipKit is choosing to fund every other player's bid accounts (by refunding all bids placed against these power bidders) to run them off the site... Isn't SnipKit offering to refund all bids placed against certain members collusion itself? If SnipKit will go to this extreme, publicly, what are we left to think that they will do or conspire in private?

We have reached out to SnipKit in the past, and aside from an email or two months ago, have never communicated with them. I wish we had, as they would certainly have a better understanding of the definition of collusion, and of the history of sites who made this same mistake.

What do you think about this decision of SnipKit?

Are they wrong for doing this, and if so, what about the bidders who partake of this bounty hunt, offered by SnipKit?

Sometime Thursday morning, a long-running penny auction on Zeekler.com for a brand-new Ford Mustang finally ended! The final price? $4,077.07!

Zeekler Ford Mustang Auction Ends For $4,077.07 Screen Shot

As this was a traditional penny auction, this final price means that there was a total of 407,707 bids placed during the auction. And, as this was a "VIP Auction", every bid placed was worth $1 each - as compared to $.65/bid. On the surface, it looks like Zeekler raked in $407,707 total for the auction.

The winner of the auction goes by the username "Gloo". S/he won the auction with a total of 105 bids - for $105!

Talk about a good day for both sides!

We have been in communication with Dawn Wright-Olivares of Zeekler, and we are working on a possible exclusive interview with "Gloo" to cover the details of their auction, their reaction to the win, how they discovered Zeekler and penny auctions in general, and more. At the very least, we will receive an official recap of the auction from Dawn or another Zeekler representative, so check back here for updates on all you need and want to know!
